Mission and Philosophy
In accordance to the AISB mission statement, it is our intent as the school’s Student Life Department to provide our students with activity, athletic and service opportunities, and to maintain a program that is sound in purpose and will further each student’s educational maturity. The AISB Student Life Department will engage students in their participation, prepare them to perform and compete at their highest level and inspire them to develop qualities of responsible, global citizens.
AISB strongly believes in education-based Student Life programs. Our Activities, Athletics and Service programs are the “other half of education” that students experience through their participation. Being involved in activities, athletics and service provides students with opportunities to learn skills including leadership, good sportsmanship, the ideals of fair play and ethical behavior as well as social and English skills that are necessary for cooperation and competition in our global society. Participation also provides our students with unique opportunities for self-discipline, self-sacrifice, loyalty to the AISB community, the school and the team. AISB encourages all students to participate in activities, athletics and service by offering a well-rounded, age-appropriate program in all divisions.

Participation requirements
Participation in the Activities, Athletics and Service program is a privilege, not a right. Students are expected to maintain a satisfactory academic standing and demonstrate good behavior and citizenship both during and after school hours in order to be able to participate in the program.
The ES Activities Program is open for students in Multiage 4 though Grade 5. Multiage 3 students may not participate in the program. Multiage 4 students may select one activity per week, starting in the winter season (January). There are no activities for Multiage 4 students during the fall season.

Activities in the Elementary School
After-school activities (ASAs) are free of charge for parents, provided by AISB teachers and staff and generally run from 3:35 pm to 4:25 pm. Hosted Clubs are paid activities, provided by professionals from outside of the AISB Community and generally run from 3:35 pm to 4:25 pm for Multiage 4, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 students, and from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm for students in Grades 2 through 5.
Hosted Clubs charge a fee. Students new to certain Hosted Clubs have the opportunity to try the clubs and decide after the first session whether or not they are wishing to continue with the activity. In the unfortunate case of withdrawal, the first session is free of charge. If students attend the second session of their chosen Hosted Club, enrollment will be completed and the full fee will be charged unless a different agreement was made with the provider, prior to the start of the club.
Payments to the Hosted Clubs are to be made to the providers directly, by cash or bank transfer. Payment details and instructions are provided after the first session of the club.
Brain Games
Brain Games is available every day in the Cafeteria from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, supervised by a member of the Faculty, and is available for students waiting for their siblings to finish an activity, or waiting for their own activity to start at 4:30 pm. Students enrolled for an activity starting at 4:30 pm but not enrolled for anything beforehand are automatically enrolled for Brain Games. In case students wish to wait for their siblings in Brain Games, parents are kindly requested to notify the school so we may ensure proper arrangements are in place. While we are happy to accommodate last-minute schedule changes, late pick-ups and emergencies on an occasional basis, students should meet the above criteria when participating in Brain Games on a regular basis.

Registration processing
When registering for ASAs, it is important that requests are prioritized as we cannot guarantee that children gain a place in all of their requested programs due to places being limited.
Registrations are processed in a chronological order, starting with the first preferences, and each child is granted their first preference, where possible. Then, the registrations are processed further in the same order, continuing with the second preferences, and each child is granted their second preference, where possible. This process continues until all the registrations have been processed or all the available places have been allocated.
Our commitment is to grant each child at least one ASA, ideally, their first preference. In case of conflicts, the chronological order of the registrations is decisive. Based on the availability of facilities / additional hosts, Hosted Clubs may have the opportunity to accommodate an increased amount of students.
Late submissions
Late registration forms are considered once all the registrations submitted before the deadline have already been processed.
Confirmation
After the registration period, parents receive a separate confirmation email for each activity their children have been enrolled for. Not receiving a confirmation email for an activity the student signed up for might mean that
- The activity has not been available for the student, due to the order of his/her preferences and/or the chronological order of his/her registration
- The activity will not be running due to lack of interest
Waitlists
In case students cannot be granted their first preference due to space limitations, they are automatically waitlisted for the activity, in a chronological order. In case of a cancellation from an enrolled student, parents will be notified and the place will be offered to students on the waitlist.

Attendance
Students should always attend their ASAs and Hosted Clubs. In case a student needs to miss an activity, parental notification is required to the Homeroom Teacher and the Activity Coordinator, so they may ensure proper arrangements are in place. Should a student approach their Homeroom Teacher, the Activity Coordinator or any member of faculty with a question regarding the change of their after-school routine, the school will make every effort to clarify the situation and contact the parents, if necessary. The school does not need to be notified if the student was out absent the entire day or was taken home ill.
Should parents wish to contact the school about a cancellation/after-school routine change, they are welcome to contact us via email or phone before 1:00 pm. After 1:00 pm, please always call the school to make sure the message is received.

Supervision
Elementary students must remain supervised at all times, while on campus, this is to ensure their personal safety. In order to remain on campus after 3:30 pm, students should
- Participate in an activity
- Be supervised by their parents
- Remain with their tutors, in case they have private tutoring arranged

Logistics and Bussing
Early Childhood and Lower Elementary students are escorted to their activities by their Homeroom Teachers / Assistant Teachers. Upon completion of their activities, they are escorted to their buses/pick-up location by the Activity Providers.
During the first week of activities, Homeroom Teachers ensure that Upper Elementary students are aware of their schedules and the locations of their activities. As the season progresses, students should be able to keep track of their own schedules, find their way to their activities and ask an adult for help, if needed.
It is important that students know they should always ask a member of faculty for help/assistance in case of any uncertainty concerning their after-school routine or transportation home.
Students getting picked up by their parents should always be collected at the completion time of their ASAs/clubs. The school does not provide supervision after 4:30 pm.
In case students remain in school for an activity, parents are kindly requested to send in an extra snack for the students to have before their activity starts. Before the start of their activity, students may also use the Building A Café to purchase snacks. The Building B Café and Cafeteria are not available for Elementary School students at any time, except Grade 5 during lunch time.
Buses
Capital and Sargent buses offer late services for students staying behind for an activity. Both companies run buses at 4:45 pm and 5:45 pm.
